JASON WILLIAMS
PREVIEW
By Clint Jackson

Player Profile: Jason
Williams
The McDonald's
All-America Player of the Year, from Metuchen, NJ, Jason
Williams is the real deal, he can handle the rock, he can dish, he
can take almost anyone off the dribble and he's got the vertical
to finish and leave the Crazies' heartbeats in a frenzy.
I have seen Jason play on video and in person several times last
year and over the summer and, after the pickup games so far this
season, Jason has left the impression that he will live up to all
of the hype.
He is the type of point guard that gives a sigh of relief to
nervous fans at the end of the game, when the ball is in his
capable hands.
At a muscular 6'2", Williams has the body to mix it up down
low and take the abuse that many teams love to give (Clemson comes
to mind).
With his point guard skills, determination, mature physique and
the pleasant smile, the freshman sensation should keep Duke in the
mix of things atop the ACC Conference. Duke fans everywhere
are likely to forget that Jason is only a Freshman half way
through the season.
Although very capable of being flashy, he is more under control
than many other young point guards and won't cause as many
turnovers as other "diaper dandy" (as Dicky V says)
pointmen. Jason and Brett Nelson were widely considered the
top high school playmakers last year. Many experts rated
Jason ahead of Nelson because of his steady and controlled play.
In addition to all of that, if Jason ever does get out of hand, CC
and Shane will be vocal leaders and let him know.
So, in conclusion, Duke fans have nothing to be worried about at
point guard this year, because Jason holds the keys to your team,
the Duke Blue Devils.
Go Devils!
