Newspaper Registrations Over the last two years the number of newspapers requiring registration for reading online articles has skyrocketed. Currently more than half of all articles we post links to are located on sites requiring registration. Many of our readers object to giving all of their personal information in order to read one or two articles. We have recently discovered a website that catalogs User IDs and Passwords that visitors submit, so that they can be used again. The site is BugMeNot.com . To use BugMeNot, simply enter the URL (e.g. www.DukeUpdate.com ) of the site you wish to access and, if anyone has submitted a user name or e-mail address and password for that site, it will prompt you with the necessary login information. By its terms, BugMeNot will not provide passwords to pay sites, and, in the event that you see any pay sites listed, I would request that you notify BugMeNot to have site sites removed. While it has worked every time that I have tried it, there is no guarantee that it is 100% effective. Additionally, it may violate the terms of use for some of the web sites. Still, BugMeNot is something you may wish to consider to avoid registering at each newspaper.
